Blown Save №35 turns into an embarrassing loss!
The Washington Nationals had a 2-0 lead going into the 9ᵗʰ inning. The pitching was excellent to that point. The Nats received 6.0 scoreless from starter Andrew Alvarez and 2.0 zeroes from Clayton Beeter out of the bullpen. In the final frame, the wheels came off the bus, and the Marlins scored six runs to put a blown-save-loss on the Nats bullpen. That was the Nats bullpen’s 35ᵗʰ blown save of the season, and two from tying the 2024 Chicago White Sox record of 37. The previous record was by the 2021 Washington Nationals with 36. With an overused bullpen, manager Blake Butera went to Max Kranick for the 9th inning to get the save. The Marlins tested him right away with a perfect bunt single. Then Kranick put two more runners on-base to load the bases with one out. Butera went to the lefty Tom Cosgrove who plunked the first batter in a lefty-lefty at-bat. That scored one run to make the score 2-1. The next batter who Cosgrove faced, hit a sacrifice fly that tied the game, and on that same play, Andrew Pinckney, who subbed into center field, caught the ball and threw to third base with urgency. Pinckney missed his mark, and the ball sailed well over the head of the cut-off man and went into the dugout allowing two more runs to score and make the score 4-2 for the Marlins. Third baseman Jorbit Vivas didn’t try to block the throw, and Cosgrove didn’t back…

Game #139 CJ Abrams Finally Plays at 2nd Base
The Washington Nationals won yesterday on a 10ᵗʰ inning walk-off by Dylan Crews. That was the team’s first walk-off win of the 2026 season. In another first, CJ Abrams will play his first game today at second base. In another first, the Nats have won two consecutive games against the Miami Marlins this season and have a chance to win this 4-game series with a win today. At 1 pm today, James Wood will be playing a rehab game at Double-A Harrisburg. This marks Wood’s first game since injuring his oblique back on August 3ʳᵈ which also happened to be the trade deadline day. Getting Wood back into this lineup at the start to September would be a great lineup enhancement before the team flies to the west coast to face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday and the San Diego Padres on Labor Day. The Nats are now on a modest 3-game winning streak. Can they extend this longer as there are just 23 games remaining in this regular season. To avoid a 90 loss season, the Nats need to get 8-games in the win column. And to get to a winning season, the Nats would have to go 17-6 to finish the season. ❝We’ve been waiting for a walk-off win, right? You got one. There you go. There you go. … Find a way to get on-base and pass it to the next guy. It’s fun being the hero of course. … Knowing the you have the trust…

Postgamer: Nats get their 1st Walk-Off Win of 2026 courtesy of Crews!
The Washington Nationals went 137 games this season without a walk-off win — so why not get one on Caturday? The hero was Dylan Crews who hit the walk-off single with bases loaded in the 10ᵗʰ inning for the game winner over the Miami Marlins. In the 7ᵗʰ inning, the Nats had what seemed like a comfortable 4-0 lead. On defense, Crews couldn’t glove a 2-out flyout in the right-field gap to score two runs. It was a tough play with an xBA of.700, but Crews was there on a dive and the ball missed his glove, and clanked off of his wrist. It only made sense that the former LSU superstar, who excelled in the clutch in college, would be the player who came through for his MLB team when they needed just a single to win it. That was Crews first MLB walk-off hit. ❝That’s an awesome win right there. What a dogfight. … It’s awesome. We were going through it the past couple of weeks — but with this team, we’re never out of a game. … It was a great collective win for us today.❞ — said Crews after the game This was a huge crowd today at 32,055 celebrating Caturday as well as James Wood bobblehead day. It was also a marquee pitching matchup between aces on the mound for both teams with Cade Cavalli for the Nats, and former Cy Young winner, Sandy Alcantara, for the Marlins. In this matchup of №1’s, it was…

Game #138 Aces matchup in D.C.
The Washington Nationals were a deep underdog in Friday’s matchup and Jackson Kent came out barking like a bulldog to get his first win of of his MLB career. Today’s game is that classic matchup of each team’s ace as Cade Cavalli goes for the home team in Washington, D.C., and Sandy Alcantara goes for the visitors. Earlier today, James Wood took full swings with full body rotation in the batting cage today (pictured above). It is expected that if he comes out of these sessions with no pain that he will come off of the IL in the next few days. Manager Blake Butera said that Wood would not be the team’s September 1 callup at roster expansion. What that means is someone will still come up as the team’s 14ᵗʰ position player, and someone else would come off of the roster when Wood is activated off of the IL. Getting Wood back into this lineup would certainly feel like a major jolt of offense. And the team is hoping for breakouts from Brady House and Dylan Crews as they keep showing glimpses of greatness, just not enough consistency, yet. Since August 11ᵗʰ, House has an OPS of.776, and Crews has a.725 OPS since July 19ᵗʰ. Can the Nats get on a winning streak as there are just 24 games remaining in this regular season. To avoid a 90 loss season, the Nats need to get 9-games in the win column. And to get to a winning season, the…

Pre-Season Game #3
Mark Rypien behind a curtain of granite in Super Bowl 26: Jeff Bostic -C, Raleigh MacKenzie -LG, Jim Lachey -LT, Mark Schlereth -RG, and Joe Jacoby- RT. For the entire season Rypien was sacked 9-times with a big fat 0 in the Super Bowl. This last pre-season game comes amid stress-saturated hyperventilation over the state of the current Offensive Line. Whatever that state truly is it will be a safe bet they won’t be as good as this 1992-Champions O-line was. These two teams want this pre-season to be over with early. Tonight’s game starts at 6:00pm EDT. Washington has been up near Baltimore already once this week. It was a lovely day for a picnic. But, it was a lousy day for a Washington fan. Baltimore had the better of things by a large margin. The hype machine has exhausted the lexicon for words that convey a sense of things gone awry: Disaster, Dysfunctional, Dismal (There are more words starting with “D” but by now you get the point.) It was bad per the eyeballs actually there to watch it. The problem is that will have been the last real work against humans from another team until Sunday, September 13 in the always unfriendly confines of Philadelphia’s Lincoln Field. ‘Tis a long time to sit and digest this latest piece of gristle. What We Really Know …is that the Center of this Line with backups is really poor. A lot of this was known beforehand. Matt Gulbin is the 6th-Round pick that was plugged into the fire. He’s Strong. He’s not quick, though. Zone-Read Running plays need linemen that can move. Brandon Coleman is going to be great at zone blocking. He’s already shown it. Gulbin, though, will probably never crack Backup status. But, he was out there because…

Game #136 Nats must win for a split!
The Washington Nationals got a zero last night from Matt Waldron in his 2.0 innings of work. Unfortunately, bullpen games don’t always go by plan, and Wednesday’s game was a disaster. The near-perfect Will Dion gave up two bombs of the 2-run variety, and he departed with a 4-1 deficit. Then the real issues and the pre-game plan of manager Blake Butera went awry with the newly called up Luis Perales. The average WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched) in Major League Baseball is approximately 1.30, and 16 pitches per inning for the 2026 season. That means that the average pitcher should face 4⅓ batters per inning. In a typical 2.0 inning appearance that would be 9… pic.twitter.com/XmOuvgnpBF — Nats.Talk (@TalkNats) August 27, 2026 CJ Abrams returned to the lineup on Monday and DH’d for two nights, and was supposed to play shortstop on Wednesday — and then the lineup changed to where Abrams was back at the DH. Can the Nats get on a winning streak as there are just 26 games remaining in this regular season. If they don’t, the final results might look very disappointing. To avoid a 100 loss season, the Nats need to win one more game. To avoid a 90 loss season, the Nats need to win 11 more games. And to get to a winning season, the Nats would have to go 20-6 to finish the season. Sometimes, a manager needs to look in the mirror. Manager Blake Butera was critical of…

The State of Georgetown Men’s Basketball and a 2026-2027 Season Preview
It is no secret that the 2026-2027 season is make-or-break for head coach Ed Cooley and the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team. Cooley is entering his fourth season with the Hoyas and is unquestionably on the hot seat. When the Hoyas poached Cooley from Big East rival Providence College after the 2023 season, the expectation was that the decorated coach would right the ship and lead Georgetown back to the NCAA tournament. After all, in 2022 Cooley won the Big East Coach of the Year and Naismith College Coach of the Year awards while leading his former school, Providence, to the Sweet 16. Yet, the first three years of Cooley’s tenure at Georgetown have been nothing short of a disappointment. The Beginning Stages During Cooley’s first season at the helm (2023-2024), the Hoyas finished a lousy 2-18 in Big East conference play and 9-23 overall, losing in the first round…

From Pearls to Powder
Len Hauss #56 (1942-2021) was the very definition of a Solid Center. He played the position for 14-years with all of them being with Washington. His Rookie year he started 10 o f 14-games. He would start every single game for the rest of his 14-year career. Len was selected to the Pro Bowl (when that really meant something) some 5-times. The current team could use a player like Len Hauss. Off-season football is a tease quite unlike any other sport. It begins with “Black Monday” when nearly one-fourth of the League’s coaching staffs are sent packing. Every move from then on is proctologically examined. Impending doom or soaring success are the two options available for ascription. The height of the lunacy is the Draft. The player grading system is dysfunctional. You’ll notice that the top two Receivers on this WFT roster are a 3rd and 5th-Rounder. Diggs was the 21st-Wide Receiver selected. The first was Amari Cooper. Diggs has more Receptions, Touchdowns, and Yards than Amari. The second selected was Kevin White. He had 28-Receptions all told. Other than QBs where there is a definite relationship between the 1st-Round and Playoff success the whole thing is a Craps Shoot. But, the real Pearl Clutching waits for Training Camp. After last week’s exhibition in Detroit the pearls have been ground to dust. Extrapolation Rules An old colleague used to say that he was, “Drowning in data, but starved for information.” The problem with Training Camp and pre-season is that the data is limited to miniscule portions. But, the attempts to make real information out of it are continuous. Two data points don’t make a trend, the old Professor would say. No one writing the screeds about the team for money attended that class. One data point often makes a solid…

Is an Anthony Davis resurgence on the board for the Wizards?
Not too long ago, Anthony Davis was on the short list of players you would consider true NBA superstars. And for good reason too. “The Brow” has a long list of impressive accolades during his 14-year career so far, including being a member of the NBA 75 team, 10-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA member, and five-time All-Defensive member, as well as helping the Los Angeles Lakers capture their 17th championship in franchise history during the 2020 bubble against the Miami Heat. Despite this, public opinion of the future Hall of Famer has never been lower. When he plays, he is still as good a big man this side of Victor Wembanyama or Nikola Jokic, but “when he plays” is the problem in the equation. AD has not proven that he’s a durable player, hence why the Wizards were able to snag him for such a low return from the Dallas Mavericks…

Terps autumn sports are about to open!
For the 2026 season, Maryland Terps football aims to bounce back from consecutive 4-8 seasons under head coach Michael Locksley. Armed with a core of returning talent—led by sophomore quarterback Malik Washington and running back DeJuan Williams —the team looks to improve its consistency and avoid the late-game collapses that plagued them in the 2025 season. “All those losses we had a year ago have now become lessons for a really talented young team,” Locksley said. “The wisdom and experience that we gained going through it I think will benefit us.” There is certainly reason for optimism as QB Malik Washington returns after a stellar true-freshman campaign where he threw for nearly 3,000 yards, highlighted by a 459-yard, three-touchdown finale against Michigan State. Clint Trickett aims to inject fresh energy, focusing particularly on maximizing quarterback mobility and boosting the ground game. DeJuan Williams returns in the backfield alongside a young…

How The Capitals Are Preparing for the 2026-2027 NHL Season
WASHINGTON, DC – The Capitals players and staff are enjoying the pleasantries of the offseason with rest, recovery, and game-planning. Most analysts think they have had an excellent offseason. Last season, the Caps were nothing short of inconsistent. They had a poor shootout record which set at 2-0-6 by seasons end. They had several mid-season slumps and key injuries. Gracefully though, the Caps were just a game away from securing a spot as the final team to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Ending the season with 42 wins and 93 points. This season is a whole new process, as the…
