DC Sports is a fan site, not a data business. We collect as little as we can, we never sell any of it, and this page spells out exactly what happens to the little we do collect.
01Who we are
DC Sports is an independent, fan-run site covering Washington, D.C. teams. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any team, league, or rights holder.
“We,” “us,” and “the site” below mean DC Sports and the volunteers who run it.
02What we collect
You can read every page on this site without giving us anything. We collect information only when you hand it to us:
- Contact form. When you use the contact page, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you type. We use them to answer you and nothing else.
- Anything you send us directly. Story tips, corrections, photos, or other material you email or message to us.
- Contributor accounts. If you write for the site, we store the account details you register with so you can sign in and publish.
Our web host also keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — which exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse.
03What we do not collect
- We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiles on you.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever.
- We never see or store your payment card, bank, or account details — donations are handled entirely on the payment provider's own site.
- We do not build advertising profiles or run behavioural retargeting.
05Third-party services
Some parts of the site are provided by other companies. When you use them, their privacy policy governs the data they collect, not ours.
- Disquspowers article comments. Posting a comment means creating or using a Disqus account under Disqus's own terms and privacy policy.
- X (Twitter) serves embedded posts inside some articles, directly from its own servers.
- Stripe, PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle process donations. You leave this site to complete a donation, and the payment provider handles everything from there.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces the site is set in.
- Our hosting and storage providers deliver the pages and images that make up the site.
06Links to team sites and other publishers
Many headlines here link to articles hosted on our team sites or on other publishers' websites. Once you follow one of those links you are on a different site, governed by that site's privacy policy. We are not responsible for what other sites collect or how they use it.
07How we use what we collect
- To reply to your message, tip, or question.
- To publish and credit contributions, where you have asked us to.
- To keep the site online, secure, and free of spam and abuse.
- To meet a legal obligation, if we are ever required to.
08How long we keep it
We keep contact-form messages only as long as we need them to handle the conversation, then delete them. Contributor accounts last as long as the account is active. Server logs are kept on our host's ordinary retention schedule and then rotate out.
09Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Send the request through the contact form and we will act on it as promptly as we reasonably can.
Comments are managed by Disqus, so a request to change or remove a comment account goes to Disqus. We can remove individual comments from our pages on request.
10Children
This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the site changes in a way that affects it, and we will move the “last updated” date at the top when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about this page? Send them through the contact form and we'll get back to you.
