Austin Leads Dominant Performance
Center Shakira Austin fueled the historic win by pouring in a game-high 25 points and pulling down 13 rebounds to achieve her 20th double-double of the season. Austin was nearly unstoppable inside, making a career-high 11 free throws and expanding her single-season franchise record to 397 total rebounds. The young Mystics core also got a significant boost from the backcourt and bench: Cotie McMahon provided spark off the bench with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Sonia Citron added 12 points, executing a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. Georgia Amoore hit a timely three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter to pull off the final momentum shift after Connecticut cut the lead down to five.
Playoff Outlook
The victory moved Washington to a 27-16 record, locking down a postseason berth and keeping them within striking distance of the No. 6 or No. 5 seed. For the Sun (10-33), guard Diamond Miller led the effort with 19 points, but it wasn't enough to curb Connecticut's sixth straight loss. The Mystics will wrap up their regular season at home on Thursday when they host the Chicago Sky.
