Postgamer #56: This is real right?? Nats improve to two games over .500, win another

Posted on by Ryan MacReynolds

Two games over .500. Say that again. Two games over .500. I had to check the standings three times because I didn't believe it. And yet here we are, and this team just keeps finding ways to win baseball games.

Tonight was messy. It was ugly in stretches. The bullpen gave everyone about four heart attacks in the seventh inning alone. But the Nationals found a way, and right now that's all that matters.

Gore Was The Story

MacKenzie Gore was dealing early. Sitting 95-96 with life, throwing his curveball for strikes when he needed it, and keeping the lineup off-balance all night. Six innings, two runs, eight strikeouts. The kind of start that makes you remember why this kid was such a coveted piece of the Soto trade.

If Gore is finally putting it together — and I mean really putting it together, not just a two-week mirage — then this rotation becomes genuinely interesting in the second half.

Abrams With Another Big Hit

CJ Abrams is quietly putting together the best offensive stretch of his young career. His go-ahead double in the sixth plated two and essentially won the game. He's been the engine of this offense for three weeks now and the numbers are starting to turn heads league-wide.

Two games over .500. I'm going to keep saying it. Drop your thoughts below — this is what the comment section was built for.
